A note on the manuscripts

Genuinely contested

The angel in Gethsemane and the sweat like drops of blood

Two of the most intense verses in the Gospels are missing from some of the earliest manuscripts and present in others, and there is a serious argument that they were removed rather than added, because they show Jesus in anguish.

What it changes: No doctrine, in either direction. That Jesus suffered real anguish in the garden is in Matthew and Mark without dispute, "my soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death" — and Hebrews 5:7 speaks of him offering prayers with strong crying and tears.
