What Is the Gospel?
“Gospel” means good news. Not good advice, not a set of rules — news about something God has already done, for you. It can be told in four movements.
1.God made you, and He loves you
You are not an accident. The God who made everything made you on purpose, in His own image, so that you could know Him. The whole Bible is the story of a God who wants His children near — and the best-known sentence in it says exactly that:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
2.Sin separates us from Him
Here is the honest part. Every one of us has done wrong — lied, hated, taken, wanted what isn’t ours. The Bible’s word for this is sin, and it isn’t only about actions: it is a broken relationship with the God who made us. Sin has a wage, and it is death — separation from God now, and forever if nothing changes.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
No amount of trying harder closes that gap. Good deeds can’t erase a debt. That is why the gospel is news and not advice — because the next move was God’s.
3.Jesus died in your place — and rose
God did not send a list of demands. He came Himself. Jesus of Nazareth — God the Son — lived the sinless life we couldn’t, and then died the death our sins deserved. On the cross He took your place, and paid your debt in full. And on the third day He rose from the dead — bodily, historically, witnessed — which is God’s public receipt that the payment was accepted.
“But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
4.Salvation is a gift — received by faith
You cannot earn this. You can only receive it. The Bible says salvation comes by grace — God’s undeserved kindness — through faith: turning from your sin (the Bible calls that repentance) and trusting Jesus, personally, as your Savior and Lord.
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”
“that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
“for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.””
Would you like to receive Him now?
There is nothing magic in a prayer’s words — God looks at the heart. But if your heart is saying yes, you can tell Him so right where you are, in words like these:
Lord Jesus, I need You. I have sinned against God, and I cannot save myself. I believe You died on the cross for my sins, and that God raised You from the dead. I turn from my sin, and I trust You alone to save me. Come into my life — be my Savior and my Lord. Thank You for forgiving me and making me a child of God. Amen.
If you prayed that and meant it, the Bible’s word for what just happened is that you were born again — a new life has started. Welcome to the family of God.

Say it out loud to a person you trust — a believing friend, a family member, a pastor. New life isn't meant to be a secret.

You need brothers and sisters, and they need you. Look for a church where the Bible is opened and Jesus is preached.
