I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel
on 1 Kings 8:16-18
Solomon recalls God's word that since the exodus He had “not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel”. This answers Deuteronomy's formula of the place the LORD would choose for His Name. The choice of a man comes first, “I have chosen David”, and the city follows the king.

Matthew Henry sees Solomon crediting his father. David drew up the first design of the house, though he never lived to lay its first stone. John Gill points to 2 Samuel 7:3, where Nathan at first told David to do all that was in his heart.
