dreamed a second time

on Genesis 41:5-7

He falls asleep again and dreams a second time, seven plump heads of grain swallowed by seven thin ones. Clarke observes that the east wind is the blighting wind through Scripture, blamed for ruined grain and fruit from Exodus to Jonah. Pharaoh wakes and knows it was a dream.

Swallowed translates bala, the verb for a mouth taking something whole. Exodus 7:12 uses it when Aaron's staff swallows the staffs of Egypt's magicians. Both times the sign sets the power of God over the wisdom of Egypt.

So it appeared to Pharaoh in his dream, which must be very amazing to behold, and unaccountable how it should be: and Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream; not a real fact, but a dream; yet not a common dream, but had some important signification in it; it not vanishing from his mind, but abode upon it, which made him conclude there was something more than common in it, and made him very desirous to have the interpretation of it.
