Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)

In short, the buyer must not give less, nor the seller take more, than the just value of the thing, considered as necessarily returning at the year of jubilee. It must be settled what the clear yearly value of the land was, and then how many years' purchase it was worth till the year of jubilee.

What holds a man back from squeezing his neighbour here is the fear of God. Verse 17 closes with I am the LORD your God, and in this book that sentence carries the weight of a reason.
