called Rachel and Leah to the field

on Genesis 31:4-6

Jacob calls Rachel and Leah out to the field where his flocks were. Clarke reads the meeting place as deliberate, away from the ears of Laban's household. He tells them their father's attitude toward him has changed, and the God of his father has been with him all the same.

This site's exposition

I have served your father with all my strength

Served is the Hebrew avad, the verb of the bargain at 29:18 and of every year that followed. Jacob told Laban the same at 30:29. The oracle at 25:23 said the older would serve the younger, and the younger has served twenty years.

The record, by era

The Puritans and the Awakening1 voice

And ye know, that with all my power I have served your father. With all faithfulness and uprightness; with all diligence and industry; with all wisdom and prudence; with all my might and main, contriving the best methods, and sparing no pains by day or night to take care of his flocks, and increase his substance: of this his wives had been witnesses for twenty years past, and to them he appeals for the truth of it; so that there was no just reason for their father's behaviour towards him.
