Jacob calls Rachel and Leah out to the field where his flocks were. Clarke reads the meeting place as deliberate, away from the ears of Laban's household. He tells them their father's attitude toward him has changed, and the God of his father has been with him all the same.

Jacob speaks of God as the God of his father here, at verse 42, and in his prayer at 32:9. His vow at Genesis 28:21 had set a day when the LORD would be his own God. That day waited on his safe return.
