(Verse 8) Behold, I will bring them from the land of the North, and gather them from the ends of the earth. What follows: In the solemnity of the Passover, he shall beget many sons, which is not found in Hebrew, but is only read in the Septuagint, for which it is written among the Hebrews: Among them will be the blind, and the lame, and the pregnant, and those giving birth together: the great Church of those returning here.

The return is described by who is in the company: the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth, the travelers no army would take and this procession is built around, they shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them. For I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn restores the disinherited north to the eldest place, and the nations are summoned as witnesses, he that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. The watered garden and the mourning turned into joy give the restoration its texture, wheat, wine, oil, flock and herd, ordinary abundance as covenant proof, as Calvin reads the passage.

I will bring them from the north country - From Babylon. From the coasts of the earth - The ten tribes were carried away partly into Assyria by Tiglath-pileser, and partly into Mesopotamia and Media by Shalmaneser, 2Ki 15:29; 2Ki 17:6. Assyria and Media, being very distant from Palestine, might have been called, in prophetic language, the coasts of the earth.
