Thus says the LORD, who gives

on Jeremiah 31:35-37

The LORD who “gives the sun for light by day” ties Israel to the fixed order of creation. Israel’s descendants cease to be “a nation before Me” only if “this fixed order departed from My presence,” and are rejected only if “the heavens above could be measured.” The text attaches this guarantee to the named people, immediately after the terms of the new covenant.

Remember God's reputation is on the line if Jewish people become extinct. He promised in Jer. 31:35-37, as long as there will be a sun, moon, stars, and waves, the Jewish people will survive as a distinct people.
