Job answers with cutting thanks. How hast thou helped him that is without power, how saved the arm that hath no strength! Then he preaches God's majesty better than Bildad just did. The shades tremble beneath the waters; 'Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon hath no covering.' 'He stretcheth out the north over empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing' (26:7). He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, marks out the horizon on the face of the waters, stills the sea, pierces the swift serpent. And all of it is only the fringe: 'Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways… but the thunder of his power who can understand?'
