The second and last date in the chapter is a death, "the first day of the fifth month, in the fortieth year". Aaron at 123 is the only man whose dying this list records, and Numbers 20:22-29 tells how his garments passed to Eleazar.

Numbers 21:1 tells the rest, that the king attacked Israel on the road to Atharim and took some of them prisoner. The list keeps only that he heard. Its place after Aaron's death matches the order of Numbers 20 and 21.
