Nine camps in nine verses carry nothing but names. They belong to the years under the sentence of chapter 14, which Deuteronomy 2:14 counts at thirty-eight. The record keeps the movements of a generation whose story the narrative had stopped telling.

Terah appears as a camp only in this verse and the next, and its site is unknown. Read with Deuteronomy 2:14, it falls in the thirty-eight years from Kadesh-barnea to the brook Zered. Then Numbers 14:33 had the children shepherding in the wilderness until their fathers' generation died.
