Nine camps in nine verses carry nothing but names. They belong to the years under the sentence of chapter 14, which Deuteronomy 2:14 counts at thirty-eight. The record keeps the movements of a generation whose story the narrative had stopped telling.

Mithkah appears only in this list, and its site is unknown. Adam Clarke reports Calmet's guess that it is Mocha, a city in Arabia Petraea. Origen reads the name as new death, the dying with Christ that leads to living with him.
