3 notes on this verse
And Aaron was one hundred and twenty three years old when he died in Mount Hor. He was eighty three when he stood before Pharaoh, Exo 7:7, and forty years he had been with Israel since, which make this number; he was three years older than Moses.

This site's exposition

in the Wilderness of Zin

on Numbers 33:36-40

The second and last date in the chapter is a death, "the first day of the fifth month, in the fortieth year". Aaron at 123 is the only man whose dying this list records, and Numbers 20:22-29 tells how his garments passed to Eleazar.

This site's exposition

Aaron was 123 years old

John Gill works the age out from Exodus 7:7, where Aaron was eighty-three when he and Moses spoke to Pharaoh. Forty years in the wilderness bring the total to a hundred and twenty-three. The figure agrees with the fortieth year given in verse 38.
