Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)

"I will walk at all adventures with you," so some read; "all covenant loving-kindness shall be forgotten, and I will leave you to common providence." Note, Those that cast off God deserve that he should cast them off. (3.) As they continued obstinate, the judgments should increase yet more upon them.

The verb changes at verse 28. Punish stands at verses 18 and 24, chastise stands here, and the doubled I, even I puts the speaker in front of the act. Fury is the strongest word in the chapter and it arrives only at the fourth refusal.
