So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you
on Deuteronomy 5:32-33
The command not "to turn aside to the right or to the left" recurs for the judges at 17:11, the king at 17:20, the nation at 28:14 and Joshua at Joshua 1:7. It pairs with the ban at 4:2 on adding to or taking from the law, which Keil and Delitzsch note is standard in ancient covenant documents. Verse 33 ends on life, prosperity and long days.

The chapter closes by turning the commandments into a road, and the word all leaves no part of it to the walker's choice. Adam Clarke warns that anyone who keeps the precepts he has little wish to break while living in breach of others sins against God's authority as lawgiver.

Ye shall walk in all the ways, etc. - God never gave a commandment to man which he did not design that he should obey. He who selects from the Divine testimonies such precepts as he feels but little inclination to transgress, and lives in the breach of others, sins against the grand legislative authority of God, and shall be treated as a rebel.
