Chapter summary

The Decalogue restated — the LORD's covenant at Horeb with ‘us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day’. The ten words again, with slight differences (the Sabbath now grounded in Egyptian deliverance as well as creation; covetousness phrased with wife first). The people's plea: ‘let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not’. Moses as mediator receives the covenant's expansions. ‘O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always’. The second sermon begins.

Drafted from Matthew Henry, Calvin, Gill, Clarke, JFB, and Barnes.
