on Deuteronomy 5:17-20
These four commandments run to a handful of words each and cover life, marriage, property and speech. Paul sums them up at Romans 13:9 in the one decree "Love your neighbor as yourself."

The seventh word protects marriage, and Leviticus 20:10 sets the penalty of death for both parties. Jesus carries it inward at Matthew 5:27-28 to the look of desire. John Wesley asks whether the reader has used every means that scripture and reason suggest against unchastity.
