on Deuteronomy 5:17-20
These four commandments run to a handful of words each and cover life, marriage, property and speech. Paul sums them up at Romans 13:9 in the one decree "Love your neighbor as yourself."

You shall not steal
The eighth word guards what belongs to a neighbour, and the law at Exodus 22:1-4 sets restitution as its remedy. John Wesley grounds it higher: the houses, lands and money a man calls his own belong to God, the sole proprietor of heaven and earth.
