Three verses retell the exodus in the order Exodus gives it: the cry heard "at the Red Sea" and the "signs and wonders against Pharaoh". Gill ties each clause to its source, the cry of Exodus 14:10, the pride of Exodus 18:11, the crossing of Exodus 14:21.

The signs and wonders are the plagues of Exodus 7 to 12, which struck the officials and the land as well as the king. Exodus 9:16 gives their purpose, that the Lord's name be proclaimed in all the earth. The prayer claims that name still endures.
