To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness
on Daniel 9:7-14
Daniel accepts the charge: “To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but this day we are covered with shame”. The curse “written in the Law of Moses” falls, and the covenant sanctions of Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 come due. He confesses that God “is righteous in all He does”.

Matthew Henry heard the lament of Jeremiah here and paired it with the question whether any sin was like the sin of Jerusalem. Albert Barnes observed that Daniel saw every threatened disaster carried out, and so could not complain. John Wesley noted that the rulers shared the disaster.

And he hath confirmed his words ... - By bringing upon the people all that he had threatened in case of their disobedience. Daniel saw that there was a complete fulfillment of all that he had said would come upon them. As all this had been threatened, he could not complain; and as he had confirmed his words in regard to the threatening, he had the same reason to think that he would in regard to his promises.
