3 notes on this verse[Daniel 5:30-31] "On that same night Belshazzar, King of the Chaldeans, was slain, and Darius the Mede succeeded to his kingdom at the age of sixty-two." Josephus writes in his tenth book of the Jewish Antiquities that when Babylon had been laid under siege by the Medes and Persians, that is, by Darius and Cyrus, Belshazzar, King of Babylon, fell into such forgetfulness of his own situation as to put on his celebrated banquet and drink from the vessels of the Temple, and even while he was besieged he found leisure for banqueting.

The reckoning is stated as public and exact, in your sight, all their evil that they have done in Zion rendered back to them in the same measure. Babylon is called a destroying mountain that the Lord will roll down from the rocks and burn, no stone ever taken from her again for a corner or a foundation, a permanence the bench sets against the ordinary hope of rebuilding a ruin. The nations summoned to the siege are named as real peoples, Ararat, Minni and Ashchenaz, Armenia, Mannea and the Scythian tribes of the north, history's own armies called up for the Lord's purpose.
