on 1 Samuel 15:10-11
The LORD’s word to Samuel opens the chapter’s first statement of divine regret, "I regret that I have made Saul king," and Samuel cries out to the LORD all night. He is a prophet who does not carry the sentence lightly. Most of the older commentators read the regret as a real change in the LORD’s dealings answering Saul’s change, not in His purpose, as verse 29 states.
