David sent word to Tamar at the palace

on 2 Samuel 13:7-11

David sends his own daughter into Amnon's house, never asking why a grown man needs his sister alone to bake for him. The king who wept over Bathsheba's dying child now sends Tamar in unknowing. The sword promised at 12:10 finds its first opening inside his own house.

Bring the food into the bedroom

The move into the bedroom takes Tamar out of sight and hearing of the rest of the house. Matthew Henry reads this as the moment the mask comes off, with the food set aside once it has served its use. The pretext has done its work.
