So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house--He was her natural protector, and the children of polygamists lived by themselves, as if they constituted different families.

Absalom asks whether “your brother Amnon” has been with her, and his counsel is silence: “Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your brother”. Tamar is left “a desolate woman in the house of her brother Absalom”, and no one restores or avenges her.
