So Joshua moved on from Lachish to Eglon

on Joshua 10:34-35

Eglon falls in a day, and its king had already died at Makkedah. The formula shifts one word each time, “just as he had done to Lachish”. Keil and Delitzsch read the sequence as one southern campaign set down in the manner of a military report.

This site's exposition

That day they captured Eglon

Gill reads that day as the same day the army camped against Eglon, since those inside judged they could not hold it. Lachish, at verse 32, took two days. The king of Eglon named at verse 3 is called Debir, the same name as the town taken at verse 38.

And they took it on that day,.... The same day they encamped about it and besieged it; the besieged finding they were not able to keep it: and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day; made an utter devastation of all its inhabitants: according to all that he had done to Lachish; the last city he took; this having no king as that had not, its king being one of the five that had been hanged, Jos 10:26.
