To the half-tribe of Manasseh I gave the rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og. (The entire region of Argob, the whole territory of Bashan, used to be called the land of the Rephaim.)

And the rest of Gilead,.... The other half of the mount, with the cities belonging to it: and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; see Num 32:33. all the region of Argob, with all Bashan; the region of Trachonitis, in Bashan; see Deu 3:4, which was called the land of giants; or of Rephaim; this Jarchi says is the country of the Rephaim given to Abraham, Gen 15:20.

The land east of the Jordan is shared out before the west is entered. Reuben and Gad take from Aroer along the Arnon with half of Gilead, and the half-tribe of Manasseh the rest of Gilead and all Bashan.

The gift to the half-tribe of Manasseh covers Og's kingdom, including Argob, which verse 4 counts at sixty cities. John Gill identifies Argob with the region later called Trachonitis. He reports Jarchi's reading that this is the land of the Rephaim promised to Abraham at Genesis 15:20.
