on 2 Samuel 7:8-9
It retells his past: taken “from the pasture, from following the flock”, made ruler over Israel, given “a name like the greatest in the land”. Commentators have long set that great name beside Genesis 12:2's promise to Abraham, a name built by promise rather than by conquest.
