on Joshua 24:8-10
The Amorites beyond the Jordan are Sihon and Og of Numbers 21:21-35, and Balak's hire of Balaam runs through Numbers 22 to 24. God says "I would not listen to Balaam", putting the blessing down to his own refusal rather than any restraint in the prophet, as Deuteronomy 23:5 does. Israel heard none of it at the time, so this verse tells them what passed over their heads.

Balak complains at Numbers 24:10 that Balaam had blessed Israel these three times. Balaam's hand reached Israel later, when Numbers 31:16 traces the plague at Peor to his counsel. Joshua 13:22 records his death by the sword.
