7 notes on this verse(Verse 30, 31.) Because the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, says the Lord: they have set up their stumbling blocks in the house where my name is invoked, to defile it. And they have built the high places (or altar) of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in fire: which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. We learn in the beginning of Ezekiel that the sons of Judah put a statue of Baal in the Temple of God.

The order “Cut off your hair and throw it away” turns a mourning rite into a command, Jerusalem grieving for herself as for the dead. The high places of Topheth, where children were burned, are named as “something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My mind”.

The abominations are idols placed inside the temple itself. Jerome points to Ezekiel's vision of an image of Baal set up in the house of God. The courts that bore the LORD's name held his rivals.
