You shall therefore keep every commandment
on Deuteronomy 11:8-9
The recital turns into a charge, and the first thing promised is strength to take the land. The phrase "milk and honey" enters Scripture at Exodus 3:8, at the bush, and runs to the end of the Torah as the standing description of the place. Long days in the land, promised for honouring parents at Exodus 20:12, are here promised for the whole law.

Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments - Because God can execute such terrible judgments, and because he has given such proofs of his power and justice; and because, in similar provocations, he may be expected to act in a similar way; therefore keep his charge, that he may keep you unto everlasting life.
