on Deuteronomy 11:18-21
This repeats 6:6-9 within the same speech: the words in the heart, on the hand and forehead, and on doorposts and gates. Verse 18 is plural where 6:6 was singular, and verse 19 returns to the singular for the house.

Doorposts belong to the house and gates to the town, where the elders sat in judgment at 21:19 and 22:15. The words of verse 18 were to be read at both. Barnes gives the purpose from verse 21: keep the covenant, and the children's days in the land are multiplied.
