Verse 13 repeats the demand of the Shema and hangs the rain on it. Verse 14 is where "the autumn and spring rains" enter Scripture, the one softening the ground for sowing and the other filling the grain.

Eat and be satisfied is the phrase that sets up a warning each time the book uses it. At 6:11 to 12 and 8:10 to 14 a full table is the moment Israel is most likely to forget the LORD. Here verse 16 follows at once.

That blessing was promised to the Israelites as a temporal reward for their fidelity to the national covenant [De 11:13]. It was threatened to be withdrawn on their disobedience or apostasy; and most signally is the execution of that threatening seen in the present sterility of Palestine.
