And they that escape out of Mount Zion - Some think that this refers to the going forth of the apostles to the Gentile world, and converting the nations by the preaching of the Gospel.

The sign given to Hezekiah personally covers two years of eating what the land produces on its own, most likely because the Assyrian withdrawal still leaves the fields untended through one more season, and a third year of ordinary sowing once the danger has fully passed. The remnant taking root downward and bearing fruit upward answers the grass-on-housetops picture already used against Assyria's own transience, and the sign closes with the zeal of the Lord of hosts, the same phrase Isaiah uses again at 9:7 for the child who sits on David's throne.
