Where Kings ends the prayer on the exodus, Chronicles ends it instead on words drawn nearly whole from Ps 132:8-10: arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength, let thy priests be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness, remember the mercies of David thy servant. Adam Clarke notes plainly that these two verses are not in the parallel place in 1 Kings 8, and Albert Barnes reads both the Chronicler and the Psalm as drawing on one shared liturgy of dedication rather than one copying the other, a sharing this note states without deciding which came first. Thine anointed names Solomon himself standing at the platform, and Jamieson, Fausset and Brown read the mercies of David as the promise of 2 Samuel 7 now called in by name, the same sure mercies Isa 55:3 will later widen to all who come. The chapter that opened by retelling David's commission closes by praying his own psalm back to the God who gave it.

(2.) That he would make the ministers of the temple public blessings: Clothe them with salvation, that is, not only save them, but make them instrumental to save others, by offering the sacrifices of righteousness.
The whole word of God is of use to direct us in prayer; and how can we express ourselves in better language to God than that of his own Spirit? But these words were of use, in a special manner, to direct Solomon, because they had reference to this very work that he was now doing.
But here he declares upon what inducements he undertook it, and they are such as not only justify, but magnify, the undertaking. He did it for the glory and honour of God; this was his highest and ultimate end in it. It was for the name of the Lord God of Israel (

And the ark - Thou in the ark. Thy strength - Which is the sign and instrument of thy great power put forth from time to time on the behalf of thy people. Salvation - Let them be encompassed on every side with thy protection and benediction.
