This site's exposition

began to reign over Judah

on 1 Kings 22:41-43

Jehoshaphat's record opens with the formula this book gives every king of Judah, judged against doing right in the eyes of the Lord, and his mother Azubah is named as every queen mother in this book is named. The same qualifier attached to nearly every good king before him is attached here too: the high places were not taken away, so the people still offered and burnt incense there.

The record, by era

The Nineteenth Century1 voice

The writer returns to the history of the kingdom of Judah (connect this verse with 1Ki 15:24), sketching briefly a reign much more fully given by the writer of Chronicles 2 Chr. 17–20. Compare also the marginal references.
