Do not fight with anyone, small or great

on 1 Kings 22:31-33

Syria's “thirty-two chariot commanders” are ordered to single out one man, the king of Israel. The order nearly kills Jehoshaphat instead when his robes draw their chariots toward him and he cries out. Only when the captains see he is not Ahab do they turn back.

The order of verse 31 named one target. The commanders keep to it once they see their mistake, and Albert Barnes holds that the battle cry of Jehoshaphat told them who he was. He returns home safely at 2 Chronicles 19:1-2, where the seer Jehu rebukes the alliance.
