Tabor was the name of a mountain in those parts; it is generally supposed to be the mountain on which our Lord was transfigured, though it is not sufficiently evident; See Gill on Jer 46:18. There was a city of this name near it, 1Ch 6:77, and which is meant here, and which either gave unto or received name from the mount.

Issachar is given by its towns rather than a traced border, because the tribe sits enclosed between portions already described. Jezreel at verse 18 becomes the ground of Naboth's vineyard at 1 Kings 21:1. Shunem is where the woman who kept a room for Elisha lived at 2 Kings 4:8.

The border ends at the Jordan, and Barnes suggests Tabor means the town on the mountain, the Levite town listed at 1 Chronicles 6:77. Clarke counts several towns named Beth-shemesh, house of the sun, as evidence of sun worship in Canaan. Barnes keeps this one apart from Judah's at 15:10.
