4 notes on this verseAnd Kedesh,.... This is Kedesh in Galilee, in Mount Naphtali, to distinguish it from others of the same name; it was one of the cities of refuge, Jos 20:7. Jerom says (m) in his day it was called Cidissus, and was twenty miles from Tyre by Paneas; See Gill on Jos 12:22. and Edrei is a different place from one of that name in the kingdom of Og, Num 21:33, and Enhazor, of which we read nowhere else. on Joshua 19:32-39
Hazor, burned at 11:10-11, appears at verse 36 as an ordinary town, yet by Judges 4:2 a king reigning in Hazor oppresses Israel again. Kedesh at verse 37 becomes a city of refuge at 20:7 and is where Deborah sends for Barak at Judges 4:6.

Gill distinguishes this Edrei from the Edrei in Bashan where Og met Israel in battle at Numbers 21:33, and finds En-hazor nowhere else. Kedesh and Hazor both fell to Tiglath-pileser of Assyria at 2 Kings 15:29. That verse records the people of Naphtali carried to Assyria.

the sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali--Although the cities mentioned have not been discovered, it is evident, from Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh, that is, on the northwest of Lake Merom (Jud 4:11), that the boundary described (Jos 19:34) ran from the southwest towards the northeast, up to the sources of the Jordan.
