3 notes on this verseAnd Kedesh,.... This is Kedesh in Galilee, in Mount Naphtali, to distinguish it from others of the same name; it was one of the cities of refuge, Jos 20:7. Jerom says (m) in his day it was called Cidissus, and was twenty miles from Tyre by Paneas; See Gill on Jos 12:22. and Edrei is a different place from one of that name in the kingdom of Og, Num 21:33, and Enhazor, of which we read nowhere else. on Joshua 19:32-39
Hazor at verse 36 was the head of the northern kingdoms and was burned at 11:10-11, and it appears here as an ordinary town of the inheritance, while a king of Hazor is oppressing Israel again by Judges 4:2. Kedesh at verse 37 is set apart as a city of refuge at 20:7 and is where Deborah sends for Barak at Judges 4:6. Judges 1:33 names Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath as towns Naphtali never cleared, and both of them close this list at verse 38. Isaiah 9:1 speaks over the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the two portions given in this chapter, and Matthew 4:15 quotes that verse of Christ settling in Capernaum.

the sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali--Although the cities mentioned have not been discovered, it is evident, from Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh, that is, on the northwest of Lake Merom (Jud 4:11), that the boundary described (Jos 19:34) ran from the southwest towards the northeast, up to the sources of the Jordan.
