Ahaziah flees toward Judah, is shot on the Ascent of Gur near Ibleam, and dies at Megiddo. Jehu still lets the body go to Jerusalem, where his servants buried him. Gill traces that courtesy to Ahaziah's descent from Jehoshaphat, and Judah's throne still has a David to be buried beside.

The servants bring Ahaziah by chariot and lay him in his tomb in the City of David. John Gill set this burial beside the burial of Jehoshaphat, Ahaziah's grandfather, with his fathers in the same city at 1 Kings 22:50. Ahaziah dies in the north and is buried in Judah.
