Being a child only four years old when his father was murdered, a regency was appointed during Azariah's minority. began Azariah . . . to reign--The character of his reign is described by the brief formula employed by the inspired historian, in recording the religious policy of the later kings.

on 2 Kings 15:1-2
The king is Azariah through most of this chapter, and Uzziah in Chronicles and at verses 13, 30, 32 and 34. He reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years, alongside Jeroboam the second's reign in the north, and both kingdoms held their widest borders in that one generation.

Amaziah died in the fifteenth year of Jeroboam, by 14:17 and 14:23, and Azariah became king in the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam at 15:1. Gill and Jamieson, Fausset and Brown filled the years between with a regency during his youth. Kings is silent on those years.
