Menahem son of Gadi became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria ten years. The formula returns for the second time in nine verses. A usurper who murdered his way to the throne inherits the same sin as every king before him.

Menahem's verdict adds throughout his reign, the Hebrew all his days, which the other three verdicts in this chapter omit. Hosea, who prophesied in these years, speaks against the calf of Samaria at Hosea 8:5 to 6. The phrase covers all ten years.
