Here are more exceedingly great and precious promises made of the happy state of the Jews after their return to their own land; but they have a further reference to the kingdom of the Messiah and the glories of gospel-times.

The chapter ends in permanence stacked clause on clause: “My servant David will be their prince forever”, and the sanctuary “among them forever”. “My dwelling place will be with them” carries the vocabulary that John's Gospel and the Revelation take up for God dwelling among His people.

God's name had been profaned among the nations through Israel's exile in 36:20. His lasting presence among His people will show that He is the One who makes them holy. Matthew Henry extends these promises beyond the return to the kingdom of the Messiah.
