Commentary on Ezekiel · Written before 420.

(Verse 42) When I bring you into the land of Israel, the land that I raised my hand to give to your ancestors, then you will know that I am the Lord. I will bring you into the land of Israel, the land that I raised my hand to give to your ancestors, and which they lost due to their own fault. But you, you have received it not by your own merit, but by my mercy.

This site's exposition

Go ye, serve ye every one his idols

on Ezekiel 20:39-42

For now the Lord tells Israel bitterly to go and serve their idols, since a people set on rebellion will not be argued out of it, but he adds the one condition that still stands, pollute my holy name no more with your gifts and idols. The turn comes at mine holy mountain, where all the house of Israel is promised full acceptance, offerings, firstfruits, and holy things once again received rather than refused. The site's own ruling on this book keeps the promise's referent, the house of Israel the text names, without erasing either the church's later reading or the people the chapter addresses first.

Commentary on the Whole Bible (1710)

It is promised that those who preserved their integrity, and would not serve idols, in other lands, shall return to their prosperity and shall serve the true God in their own land: All of them in the land shall serve me. Note, It is the true happiness of a people, and a sure token for good to them, when there is a prevailing disposition in them to serve God.
