4 notes on this verseFor though there were three sons of Korah whose names we find in the book of Exodus—Aser, which is, by interpretation, "instruction," and the second Elkana, which is translated "possession of God," and the third Abiasaph, which in the Greek tongue might be rendered "congregation of the father"—yet the prophecies were not divided but were both spoken and written by one spirit and one voice and one soul, which worked in true harmony. And the three speak as one, "As the hart pants after the springs of the water, so pants my soul after you, O God."

Korah's sons are named here, and Numbers 26:11 says the children of Korah did not die when the earth opened on their father. Eleven psalms carry their name in the title, at Psalms 42, 44 to 49, 84, 85, 87 and 88, so the house that rebelled against the priesthood ends up leading the singing. Phinehas, named at the close of verse 25, is the grandson of Aaron who acts at Numbers 25:7 to 13 and receives the covenant of an everlasting priesthood.

And the sons of Korah,.... The eldest son of Izhar, who, though he proved a bad man, yet many of his posterity were good men, and are often mentioned in general in the titles of some of the psalms of David: the immediate sons of Korah were Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph.
