on 2 Samuel 24:5-9
They return after “nine months and twenty days”, and Joab reports 800,000 men of valor in Israel and 500,000 in Judah. Albert Barnes notes that Chronicles gives other totals and says Joab left Levi and Benjamin out of the count.

John Gill traces their route through the whole land as a full circuit, east, north, west and then south. Adam Clarke notes the count was never finished (1 Chronicles 21:6). 1 Chronicles 27:24 adds that the total never entered the annals of King David.
