The names continue in the same terse form Samuel gives them. Each man is marked only by father, hometown or clan, as in Hurai from the brooks of Gaash and Ahiam son of Sachar the Hararite. Chronicles keeps the list as a roll of honor.

2 Samuel 23:36 reads Igal son of Nathan of Zobah and Bani the Gadite. Son of Hagri and the Gadite look alike in Hebrew. Zobah was an Aramean kingdom that David later defeated (1 Chronicles 18:3).
