He struck down two champions of Moab
on 1 Chronicles 11:22-25
Benaiah struck down two champions of Moab, killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day, and killed an Egyptian. David appointed him over his guard before he took Joab's post under Solomon. The Targum reads him as valiant and fearing sin, a righteous man of the second sanctuary.

These were the exploits of
Benaiah outlived David's reign in high office. He backed Solomon's accession, and Solomon later made him commander of the army in Joab's place (1 Kings 1:38 and 2:35). His father Jehoiada was a priest, according to 1 Chronicles 27:5.
