The sons of Hashem - It is impossible that this can be the true reading, since an individual warrior must be spoken of. Comparing 2Sa 23:32, perhaps the most probable conjecture is that the “Beni-Hashem” of Chronicles and the “Beni Jashen” of Samuel alike conceal some single name of a man which cannot now be recovered.

The names continue in the same terse form Samuel gives them. Each man is marked only by father, hometown or clan, as in Hurai from the brooks of Gaash and Ahiam son of Sachar the Hararite. Chronicles keeps the list as a roll of honor.

Barnes finds the sons of Hashem impossible in a list of single warriors. He reads it with the sons of Jashen in 2 Samuel 23:32 as the trace of one man's name, now lost. The Gizonite appears nowhere else in Scripture.
