From the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel

From the sons of Gad
Leah named Zilpah's first son Gad at Genesis 30:11, saying How fortunate. Gad is counted third here, in the place Levi would hold, and John Wesley says Gad is fitly added to Reuben's camp in Levi's room. Jacob foretold raiders against Gad at Genesis 49:19.

proposed
Of the two half-tribes of Joseph, who is seen to be "a fruitful bough" [Ge 49:22], that of Ephraim was the larger, as had been predicted. The relative increase of all, as in the two just mentioned, was owing to the special blessing of God, conformably to the prophetic declaration of the dying patriarch.
